The Tooway satellite broadband system is designed to be installed by anyone with basic DIY skills. You don't need any specialised tools (like a satellite meter) but you will need a decent drill.
Pointing the dish is the first thing that people ask about but the principle is very straight forward ... whether you DIY install or employ a professional installer, the method is exactly the same.
Once the dish is installed, you connect a computer or tablet or phone to the Tooway modem. The modem is then put into Installation mode and the tria (on the dish) starts to beep.
You set the correct elevation angle on the dish and then slowly turn the dish sideways ... the beeping on the tria changes meaning that the satellite has been found.
That's the principle and I've produced two DIY guides which go into much more detail:
The Browser Method:
If you have a laptop, connect it to your Tooway modem with an ethernet lead (there's one supplied with the modem). Then open up your browser and type in the address of the modem ... the modem status page opens like a web page but that page is inside the modem.
If you don't have an ethernet socket, then you can connect via wifi ... you can also use a phone or tablet also connected via wifi.

The App Method:
Before you start the installation, you need to download the Ka-Sat Pointer App to your phone or tablet.
When you're ready to start pointing the dish, go into your wifi settings and connect to the Tooway modem. Then open up the app. You don't need a cellphone signal to do this.

The Clinometer App
Whichever method you use, you'll find this angle measurement tool incredibly useful when pointing the Tooway dish.
There are many available, just search for clinometer in Play Store or App Store.

The Heartbeat Tone
This is the sound of the "heartbeat" tone ... you get that when you're searching for a signal.
The Transition Tone
When the satellite is located, you will hear the heartbeat tone change into something that sounds like a mobile phone ringing. You'll hear it once, then it turns into the Fine Tuning tone.
The Fine Tuning Tone
The fine tuning tone will get faster and the pitch will increase as the dish signal increases. Conversely, if the dish signal decreases then the tone goes slower and more lower pitched.
The Continuous Tone
As the fine tuning tone gets faster and higher, it turns into a continuous high pitched tone. This indicates that you've achieved the highest signal so far.
